Frequently Asked Questions

A large metallic question mark standing on a flat surface with a small hexagonal base.

What does the 3D content creation process involve from beginning to end?

The workflow is determined on a per-project basis. Every project starts with a client consultation, determining the scope of bespoke 3D elements that need to be created. The pipeline for each 3D scene is modelling —> texturing —> lighting —> rendering —> post-processing.

How much does it cost to commission a project from MM3D?

See our Packages page for details, including a full brochure. We offer a wide range of services for a spectrum of project budgets.

How long do projects typically take?

Small animation projects and static image packages are typically finished in around 1-2 weeks after the consultation period comes to a close. Larger animations can take several weeks or longer. Times vary depending on the complexity of a project, any revisions a client deems necessary and our current level of client bookings.

What do I need to provide to MM3D as part of the design process?

Reference images are often essential for many projects, especially when modelling a real-world product. CAD files can also be useful when available. The consultancy process covers all required information and materials, including a special section on other less obvious resources a client may bring to the table. This might be something such as specialist knowledge of an industry, which might be used to inform the content of an animation.

What if I want to change something mid-project, does MM3D allow revisions?

Yes, each MM3D package contains a number of free “early-project” revisions (1 for Core Packages, 2 for Premium, a flexible policy of 3+ revisions for Platinum projects). In general we operate a common sense revision policy, where very small revisions that are simple to include do not have an accompanying fee.

Larger revisions and revisions requested later in a project incur a Revision Fee, the terms of which are discussed with the client during consultation; this is to ensure smooth completion of projects with sufficient pre-planning and minimal interruption to the design workflow.

With thorough planning, late revisions (and the related fees) should be entirely avoidable.

Why do quotes sometimes differ substantially for similar renders/3D content?

Many factors impact the pricing of a project, from desired technical parameters (length of an animation, resolution) to aspects of production (complexity of content, required labour, special texturing work). Different types of 3D content can also take more work to produce (for example, low poly 3D work is typically faster to produce than photorealistic content and therefore incurs a lesser financial cost).

These factors are discussed during the consultation phase.
